Java Backend Engineer

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a Senior Java Backend Engineer to support complex backend engineering initiatives in the luxury goods sector. This opportunity is based in Portugal, with a hybrid working model in Lisbon, and focuses on scalable microservices, identity and access management, secure engineering practices and technical ownership across commerce platforms.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

- Design, implement and evolve complex Java microservices for scalable commerce platforms.
- Define and apply architectural patterns, coding standards, quality gates and secure development practices.
- Contribute to identity and access management architecture, including realm design, federation and authorization flows.
- Analyze performance bottlenecks, scalability constraints and security risks, proposing practical improvements.
- Facilitate technical discussions with product and architecture stakeholders, representing engineering perspectives clearly.
- Lead code reviews, promote engineering quality and support the adoption of static analysis and vulnerability management practices.
- Mentor less experienced engineers and contribute to technical documentation, architecture decision records and operational runbooks.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

- At least 8 years of professional experience in Java backend development, including complex delivery in distributed systems.
- Strong autonomy in technical decision-making, architecture alignment and engineering quality practices.
- Professional working proficiency in English and Portuguese, equivalent to C1 level.
- Ability to work from Portugal and attend the Lisbon office three days per week.
- Collaborative, responsible and solution-oriented mindset, with the ability to support other engineers and work with multidisciplinary teams.

COMPENSATION TRANSPARENCY

Base salary range: EUR 14,000 - EUR 36,000 gross/year
Total compensation: up to EUR 43,000/year
The salary range is based on objective and gender-neutral criteria, including required competencies, professional experience, level of responsibility and role requirements. Final compensation will be determined according to the candidate's profile and position requirements.
